Once upon a time in Toronto...

Though I live just outside of Toronto, I'd never been to the world-famous
Toronto International Film Festival. But when I heard Paul McGann's
then-latest movie, Fairy Tale: A True Story, was to premiere
at the Festival, it was all the excuse I needed. And when some PMEB
members decided to hike over here for the premiere, the stage was
set for another infamous get-together.
I left school early to meet the others at their downtown hotel.
From there, we split into two groups. I went along with one group
who had to pick up their premiere tickets. The plan was to get the
tickets then meet up at Movenpick restaurant.
We endured a ride with the taxi driver from hell his car
radio blasted reggae music while he shouted out the window at other
taxi drivers who got in his way then we found we had another
problem...
There are four Movenpick restaurants in Toronto. Naturally, our
two groups ended up at two different Movenpicks.
Happily, we all met again in front of Roy Thompson Hall, a concert
hall which was outfitted with a big movie screen for the duration
of the Festival.

We had harbored some faint hope that Paul might attend the premiere,
but alas, it wasn't to be. We did get the next-best thing
seeing him on a big, big screen. At his first appearance in Fairy
Tale, a collective gasp was heard from one particular row in
the concert hall. And thanks to some wonderful close-ups, we were
well on our way to solving the vexing question of what color Paul's
eyes are.
Blue, blue, beautiful blue.
