in the beginning...
Once upon a time, snootz on TLC's
Tracing Spaces Community board dared to ask "Does anyone
really like Doug"? What followed was two weeks of posts dissing
or defending Doug. Out of the flames of these heated arguments,
the Divas were born. What follows is an extremely abridged chronicle
of this great moment in history.
After two weeks, the board moderator Mod_Ivy locked the topic because
it was too large and too popular. Go figure. This locking preventing
new posts from being added and would eventually cause the topic
to drop off the board. But you can't get rid of the Divas that easily...

I can't stand it anymore, I have to get this out there that Doug
drives me crazy. Not only do I find him rude but I feel at times
he's a very big baby! I feel that he thinks the show is all about
him and his creativity and doesn't really care about the homeowners
or their idea of what they would like their home to be. i saw an
episode where a woman walked off in tears after she saw her living
room. As far as I'm concerned Doug is a spoiled brat and ruins the
show for the rest of the designers who really are fun and have great
ideas but also allow a lot of input. I especially love Frank and
Gen. But Doug is just plain selfish egotistical jerk face sometimes.
sometimes he can be nice, but most of the shows I've watched with
him I think he's a jerk. Does anyone out there agree with me?

They should put doug where they keep dez
I can't even watch when he's on. It's his mission to make people
unhappy. He must have some issues, otherwise he would'nt be the
way he is. He does the exact opposite of what people want. The funny
thing is some fans like him for this. I don't find it the least
bit entertaining or amusing.

What can I say, I really really like Doug. I like (most of) his
designs. I like the attitude: sarcastic wit, snarkiness, opinionated-ness.
Plus he's cutie with a devastating smile!

I want to like Doug, I really, really, do.......
I just have visions of the Cookie Monster blue of the Pullman Bedroom,
and the notorious Eskimo Pie room, with the infamous Crying Pam.
I just want to like him, but I haven't the Christ Complex to pull
off this feat.

I am so tired of this
All this Doug-bashing is getting so annoying. I do like him and
think he is fun. He does have bad designs from time to time, but
so do all the designers. Even Vern, my favorite designer, has had
a bad room. Sure, he has an attitude, but most of that is played-up
for the camera and it is so obvious. As for his antics like going
through the HOs drawers, that was just another obvious set-up. I
agree with some of the other posters here that I didn't like Doug
at first. But, I didn't hate him either. Now, I really like to watch
his episodes. He adds flair to the show. And, contrary to what many
believe, he does listen to HOs. There have been times when he changed
the paint color, didn't paint a piece of furniture or a floor and
other stuff.
Give the Doug-bashing a rest. It gets REALLY OLD really fast!

Voicespirit--DOD
or how about Doug Defense Team (that acronym isn't being used at
the mo!)??
Actually, we should make it a point, we Doug fans, of correcting
misinformation, posting positive, uplifing comments, shedding light
for the unenlightened, and ignoring meanies who will never 'get
it'.
Apparently we're racking up numbers.

A plan is forged!
LOL... HOWEVER -- I'm not sure if DDT (Doug Defense team)is a good
way to go... we wouldn't want to confused with a poisonous chemical!
Ok... any more ideas? We'll of course have to have a logo made
up and everything!
Maybe DWD... Doug Wilson Defenders. Or DWA... the Doug Wilson Avengers!
LOL

I prefer Doug Defenders to Doug Avengers because we're correcting
misconceptions about Doug, not exacting revenge on those who spout
such misconceptions. Plus DD (Deedee) has a nicer ring to it than
DA, which sounds like District Attorney.
Maybe DDii -- Doug Defenders (in italics). Hee!
There's also that time-honored "Estrogen Brigade" thing
that I see other Internet fan groups have used, but Doug Wilson
Estrogen Brigade (DWEB) is a bit too close to DWEEB for my liking!
Or how about Protectors of Doug (POD)? Then we can say that we're
"POD people"!
(Pod people = Invasion of the Body Snatchers in-joke...)

Now the question is...
Should it read: Doug's Defending Divas, (The) Doug Defending Divas
OR: Doug's Diva Defenders?
I kinda like (the) Doug Defending Divas...
what do you all think?
adammethos
posted June 29, 2002 02:38 AM
Well, Doug-Defending Divas needs a hyphen to be grammatically correct,
which kind of messes with the balance. Same with Doug's Diva Defenders
because of the apostrophe.
So how about Divas Defending Doug? Whatever the word order DDD
(Triple D's!) is a cool acronym!

Doug makes me sad
I don't want anyone to lose their job but I have to say that when
I see that Doug is one of the designers on a show my heart sinks.
I understand that the shows are edited for entertainment value and
that we probably aren't seeing all the other "sides of Doug"
but I just find his arrogance unwatchable. He isn't amusing when
he's being so cavalier with the concerns of the homeowners and their
neighbors. As for that "I'm the designer!" nonsense- well
of course he is but so are all the designers and somehow he manages
to be the most offensive to people and the least accomadating. Look
at Vern- Has he ever made anyone cry! He does beautiful original
designs and his teams always have a harmonious time. You can have
character and be interesting without being highhand and obnoxious.
I know, I know, it's just my opinion.

Doug's "problem" is that he admits than when HOs don't
agree with him, he likes to explain why he's doing what he is and
try to convince them that he's right. And he'll argu-- I mean, discuss
and discuss and discuss it until either the HOs give in or he does.
So basically, Doug seems to get into more arguments because he
tries his hardest to win the HOs over to his point of view before
he ploughs ahead with objectionable changes. Hildi, Laurie and Gen
will just plough ahead, not allowing the HOs much time to object.
How this comes across on screen is that Doug (1) gets the more difficult
HOs, or (2) gets into fights with HOs more than the others.

It's an uprising!!!
And the most interesting thing is there seem to be more and more
people who say "didn't like Doug at first, but...." That's
EXACTLY it! Depending on your first viewing of him, you can get
a VERY bad impression. But same can be said of all the designers.

You are tailor-made for the Defending Doug Divas (or whatever the
name is)...
Read above posts--we scour the BBs looking for misguided dissers
of Doug and we ever so gently guide them forward into the land of
right-thinking Doug-appreciaters!
YOu may have to fight off a fellow DDD member or two, though, some
are determined to 'have' Doug, if you get my meaning!

As one of the founding members of DDD (on this very topic)...
I would like to state for the record that
1) we are NOT crazy (in the negative sense of the word),
2) we do NOT want to be dominated by men,
3) although some of our membership would jump his bones if given
half a chance, our PRIME concern as a DDD is to defend Doug against
unwarranted, uncivil, and unaccurate (gramatically wrong, but works
for alliteration purposes) posts on this board,
4) although our prime allegiance is to Doug, we do not necessarily
dislike or HATE any other designer,
5) we shall try to meet all Doug criticism with civility, and only
meet nastiness & rudeness when it's first directed at us,
6) we will similarly do our best to NOT diss other designers in
the nasty and poorly written ways we've seen Doug dissed, and
7) we acknowledge that Doug may at times hit an occasional clinker
design-wise or he may get a bit cranky, but we are willing to overlook
these instances as mere flukes in an otherwise creative, intelligent,
fun and NICE person--Doug!!!
I am now prepared to suffer the slings and arrows of all those
who disagree with my assessment of Doug (even though you ARE wrong!!)

Actually, that's the BEST part of this club. No cost, no long drive
to attend meetings, just happily go online, vigilantly watch for
negative posts about Doug, and GO GET EM!!! Actually the best posts
to go after are the ones where you can tell someone has only seen
a couple of Doug shows ( esp the bad ones), and doesn't yet 'get
it'! I, myself, am a Doug convert, as are a number of DDDs. Nothing
to be ashamed of, except for the rush blindly to judgement we all
made and are now living down by trying to help others who were as
lost as we once were. But if you were a Doug fan from the beginning,
hooray for you!! We welcome any and all Doug fans with open arms
and painted fireplaces.
