Get behind the scenes

Feb. 3, 2003 — Amazon is now taking pre-orders for a Trading Spaces book and DVD.

The book is a behind-the-scenes look at the designers of Trading Spaces and features a cover photo where Doug's wearing that unfortunate blue diagonal-stripe shirt he wore on The View a few months ago. Why do TS promo pics always make Doug look icky? No word on what the DVD is about yet. They're both due to release on March 18.

Live from Las Vegas

Dec. 23, 2002 — After the success of last year's live reveal on the Today Show, they're doing it again.

Saturday, Jan. 18 at 9 PM EST, Trading Spaces will broadcast the reveal from an episode in Las Vegas live on the air. Bring on the cursing home-owners! The lastest issue of People magazine has a full-page ad for the episode.

Have Doug for lunch!

Dec. 15, 2002 — Find out just how yummy Doug is in The TLC Trading Spaces Holiday Auction for charity when you and a friend have lunch with Doug in May 2003. Or, if the cost of that makes your eyes bug out, hang up a reproduction of Doug's artwork from New York: Whitlock Rd ("Don't Box Me In" bedroom) in your home.

Wallpapering Doug

Dec. 11, 2002 — No, Kia hasn't invaded this web site. But as an early Christmas gift, you can shun that Trady Bunch wallpaper on the TLC site and deck the halls — or your computer anyway — with this Doug-filled desktop wallpaper.

Decorating with Doug

Nov. 27, 2002 — Sometimes we have way too much fun with Doug — or images of him anyway...

Ever wanted to see Doug's work outside of Trading Spaces? Over the past few months, Doug has been appearing on a local New York City morning show doing short segments on budget decorating. This week we get to see Doug make over a small apartment for a client. Links to all of Doug's appearances are in the Publicity section:

Birthday boy

Nov. 4, 2002 — Happy 38th birthday Doug!

DouglasWilson.ws

Oct. 17, 2002 — Or is that DouglasWilsonLtd.com? No matter. Doug's long-awaited (now that's an understatement) new improved web site has launched! It's classy, colorful, arty and creative — just like Doug! Some sections are still being built but there's lots of stuff to gaze at already, including an article on Doug's school days and theatrical career, news of a mysterious new product line Doug's developing (I'm not telling — you'll have to visit the site), and a detailed listing of Doug's upcoming personal appearances and Trading Spaces shooting schedule. Oh yeah. And photos. Lots of them. Doug was even kind enough to include a link to this site. What a sweetheart! But you knew that already.

Is Doug annoying? Of course not. Now tell the world by voting in Doug's favor on the Am I Annoying? web site. At one point Doug fans managed to make Doug the #1 Least Annoying celeb!

Safari for sale

Oct. 7, 2002 — While Doug's "Suburban Safari" (Pennsylvania: Gorski Lane) homeowners went bananas over their wild monkey room during the reveal, they later decided they couldn't live with it on a daily basis. So where do they turn? Ebay, of course! The room's furniture, including the headboard Doug made (and autographed), are up for sale. They're asking a hefty $1500 for the set.

The homeowners also have a web site where they talk about their Trading Spaces experience and show more pictures of the ebay furniture.

Awwwww-inspiring

Sept. 18, 2002 — A truly cute anecdote about a recent autograph signing Doug did in his home state of Illinois:

He's a big-time, New York City interior designer on one of TV's most popular shows, but Doug Wilson — the "Trading Spaces" star in town last weekend for a WJBC promotion at Lippmann's Furniture — didn't exactly have a limousine bring him here.
Instead it was a Buick. And the driver?
"My mom drove me here," said Wilson, 37, late in his appearance as Lippmann folk wondered if he needed to be back on the road. "I can't go anywhere until my mom gets back."
Sure enough, 20 minutes later, his mother, who still lives in Champaign County near Broadlands, walked back into the store, patted her star son on the knee as they sat on a couch, and eventually off they went.

What makes Doug cry

Aug. 7, 2002Frank and Gen thought they knew. Now find out what Doug himself says! I don't usually bother to list individual articles on the front page, but this is a great one for finding out about Doug's design background, how he views his work on Trading Spaces, and his favorite decorating tips. Plus it has my all-time favorite picture of Doug. But I didn't let that sway my decision, oh no…

Doug's a doll (again)

Aug. 6, 2002 — First an action figure, now a paper doll. Spend hours of fun dressing (and, um, undressing) Doug in several of his Trading Spaces outfits!

Gen-uine cutie

July 30, 2002 — Despite the press claiming that there are tons of Trading Spaces fan sites, there really aren't that many true fan web sites, just a lot of bulletin boards and discussion groups.

A fan named Jana recently created a groovy fan site for Genevieve Gorder. What does this have to do with Doug? Well, Gen shared some of her own pics with her fans, one of which is a beautiful photo of Doug and Gen. Ooo, that smile, those dimples...

Chatting with Doug

July 24, 2002 — On July 22, Doug dropped by the Doug Wilson Fan Forum chat room for a surprise visit. Fans keeled over in shock. Once they were upright again, Doug shared some tidbits about upcoming Trading Spaces episodes. Doug said he's already shot two season 3 episodes and is heading off this week to shoot two more in the Philadelphia area. He's not happy with his design for the first Philly ep because of the large size of the room (a living and dining room combination) and the homeowners putting too many "restrictions" on what he can change (for example, not altering the sofa and carpet — maybe they were afraid they'd get a spray-painted sofa and orange-dyed carpet a la Hildi?). This episode will be Doug's first time working with new Trading Spaces designer Kia Steave-Dickerson.

Pictured at right is the image that accompanied the newspaper version of an Associated Press article. (Click on picture to see larger version.) Thanks to Erin for scanning the pic!

A pretty blue forum, for Doug

July 5, 2002 — Sick of the Unenlightened dissing Doug? Want to droo— er, discuss Doug with like-minded fans? A fan named Kristina just created a new Delphi Forum dedicated to our favorite Trading Spaces designer. That's right: all Doug, all the time. Not to mention, where else on the web will you find an entire topic devoted to Doug's leather pants?

Doug's a doll…

June 14, 2002 — ...in more ways than one. Some enterprising gal has custom-made an action figure of Doug. (Click on picture to see larger version.)

According to the description, he comes "complete with a fireplace with a 'No Paint' sign. Wide-eyed, with a maniacal grin, Doug is ready to go with some paint, a saw, hammer and fabric, which of course matches his shirt—" Wait a second. It's Laurie who keeps matching clothes colors! It continues: "We call this 'Destruction By Doug,' in italics... Of course, he'll pass the dirty work onto the residents." Boo hiss. It looks nothing like Doug and the fireplace is out of scale, but at least she got the shirt color right — blue! This eBay stuff is getting out of hand.

Chess anyone?

June 11, 2002 — Get your own copy of the chess set seen on the coffee table of Doug's Blood-red Zen-Goth room (Houston: Sawdust St). There are 250 to go on eBay at a starting price of $5.95 (so a good chance of getting it cheap). And what's more, the seller promises that "all men have felt bottoms"! I always knew Doug had a soft side under that arrogant exterior…

It ain't Matisse but…

May 17, 2002 — Own a Douglas Wilson original. The Seattle: 137th St homeowners auctioned off the paper tissue artwork that Doug did for their room for $205! There must be cheaper ways of getting Doug's autograph…

AOHell strikes again

Mar. 30, 2002 — From a recent AOL poll... Hildi scored better than Doug? Are these people crazy?!?
