Trivia

During the episode Doug paints "I [heart] Ice" on the wall. He wasn't referring to Vern's icicle bedroom. It's a reference to his dog, Ice, which he got from the Humane Society. Aaawwwww... isn't that sweet?!

How To

Doug's Hammered Metallic Handles project

From an article Doug wrote for Paint Ideas:

Changing your hardware is a great — and inexpensive — way to give new life to an old piece.

  • Metal handles from an old dresser or desk
  • Denatured alcohol
  • Old rags or cloths (to use with the alcohol)
  • Drop cloth or old sheets
  • 1 can Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Clean Metal Primer (optional)
  • 1 can Rust-Oleum Dark Gray Hammered Metal spray paint
  1. Move to a spot outdoors and cover nearby items with drop cloths or old sheets to protec them from spray mist.
  2. Remove handles from the furniture or door you're interested in changing.
  3. Clean handles to remove all oils and dirt. Denatured alcohol is a great tool for this.
  4. If you want to ensure a longer lasting finish, prime the handles or pulls with Rust-Oleum Clean Metal Primer.
  5. Spray handles or pulls with the Hammered Metallic spray paint following directions on the can.
  6. After they dry, install your rejuvenated handles for a great new look.
