Colorado: Stoneflower DrDescription: "Smoke Screen" family room (TLC episode page) TriviaThis is Doug's favorite room from second season. He claims it looks waaaay better in real life than on TV, but admits that the "barn doors" on the shelves are not kid friendly. How To
From an article Doug wrote for Paint Ideas:
Giving new life to our possessions can be fun and cost saving. The plaster cast coffee table base with glass top could have been easily thrown out. I saw it as on opportunity to continue a metallic thought line in the space. An American Accents Antique Pewter Decorative Finishing Kit gave me the ability to turn this bland base into an interesting sculptural design element. With the deletion of the glass top I combined the organic beauty of metal with wood to create a better proportioned coffee table.
- Table base
- Drop cloth
- Glass top
- 1 American Accents Antique Pewter Decorative Finishing Kit
Included in the kit:
- Spray-on base coat
- Brush-on top coat
- Abrasive pad
- Gloves
- Foam brush
- Idea booklet
- Working in a well-ventilated area, I sprayed the table base with the Antqiue Pewter base coat.
- Without delay brush on top coat with provided foam brush.
- Blot off top coat with your material of choice. I used paper towel for my pulley. Different effects can be used to achieve variations. Try a plastic bag or household kitchen sponge. Be creative! Have Fun!
- I choose to further enhance the look of my table base by slightly distressing the table base with a Teflon kitchen scrubbie.
- With a soft cotton cloth I buffed the base giving it a polished quality. For additional shine you can rub on and buff with neutral shoe polish.
