And I gotta say... Could I please have an autographed picture? Also, I just bought an older house that has one room completely paneled. Actually two rooms, the master bedroom and half bath that goes with it. There is paneling on all four walls, celing, all over. It is so dark. Other then primer, I'm stuck as to what to do with it? I can't even pick a color to paint, it's so hard to see past the dark wood! HELP, please?

And I gotta say... You all wonder why he's 'mean'? He's a desinger. A working desinger on TV who probably gets harassed more often than not. He's not mean, he's just normal, I would want to throttle some of the whiny cornfed people on the show too. I always wonder why the participants are so retarded about having their horribly appointed rooms altered. One imagines that participating in a show like TS would mean that one would have some basic knowledge of how the show works. Don't sign up if your parquet floor angel stone brick fireplace are too precious. Duh.

And I gotta say... First and foremost, Doug is a great designer, but like all great desingers, he probably gets inspired by more obvious means. The 'China Blue' pattern was used prior to the TS epsiode on the British show 'Changing Rooms' in a relaxation room for a hippie-ish guy and him son.
I'm not slagging Doug - I'm at you website after all, how geeky is that?- but since Changing Rooms came first, hmmm...I gotta think Doug was 'inspired' by the original use of the pattern.
Hell, I could be wrong.

Webmaster replies: Doug says that he watched a few episodes of Changing Rooms before he started work on Trading Spaces in order to see what the show would be like. However, he hasn't watched since then. I don't know when that Changing Rooms episodes aired. If it's an old episode, then maybe Doug has seen it.

I think he's got a phenomenal style -- very visionary and unique yet extremely practical. and he's the designer behind the wall treatment I desire!! (see page 76 of October's House Beautiful...)
